Position Overview

The Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and University Hospitals (UH) is in search of a distinguished and forward-thinking researcher with expertise in one of our key research domains, including immunology, oncology, or neurodegenerative disorders. This role, titled Vice Chair for Research, is designed for an individual with substantial academic leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across various divisions within the department to enhance both fundamental and translational research initiatives.
  • Develop and implement infrastructure that supports research excellence and success.
  • Lead efforts in faculty recruitment and mentorship, fostering a culture of research innovation.
  • Oversee grant development initiatives and strategic planning for research facilities and shared resources.
  • Act as a representative for the department in interdepartmental research collaborations and policy discussions.

Departmental Context

The Department comprises approximately 120 faculty members organized into six divisions, including over 40 basic science researchers and around 70 clinical faculty, many of whom are physician-scientists. Our department ranks among the top 13 Pathology Departments in the United States for NIH funding. The PhD program is robust, featuring over 60 students and multiple training programs supported by NIH T32 grants.

Candidate Qualifications

Applicants must possess a PhD, MD, or MD-PhD and demonstrate a strong track record of NIH-funded research along with significant academic leadership achievements. Candidates should be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level, with recognition at the national or international scale.
