Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
This role involves the strategic creation and execution of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives and frameworks to ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local EHS laws, alongside MicroVention-Terumo's internal policies and objectives. Operating within both production and research environments, the focus is on promoting employee health and safety through various programs including emergency preparedness, incident management, ergonomics, machine safety, chemical oversight, change management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain effective EHS systems and programs that align with local, federal, and state regulations.
- Collaborate with various business units to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Advise on EHS objectives and assist in their implementation across the organization.
- Establish and communicate EHS performance metrics to leadership.
- Act as the primary contact for EHS emergencies; maintain and execute the emergency action plan; coordinate training for the Emergency Response Team and conduct drills.
- Conduct EHS assessments for new chemicals, product developments, facility modifications, and equipment changes.
- Facilitate incident investigations and perform root cause analyses, ensuring accurate recordkeeping in collaboration with Human Resources and Workers' Compensation.
- Oversee EHS job functions, including job safety analyses, program reviews, and employee training initiatives.
- Perform regular compliance inspections and internal audits.
- Ensure all necessary environmental permits, licenses, and documentation are obtained and maintained.
- Lead and chair the Safety Committee.
- Evaluate the potential impact of proposed regulations on site operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, or a related discipline, or a degree in an unrelated field with relevant experience.
- A minimum of four years of professional experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety, including at least three years in a manufacturing or plant setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with Senior Leadership, Supervisors, and Production staff.
- In-depth knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations, management systems, emergency action protocols, incident management, and ergonomics.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to identify and communicate sensitive issues appropriately.
- Adaptability to work within a team-oriented environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities concurrently.
