Lead Sleep Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Sleep Technologist to join our team at the 7th Floor Sleep Center of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. As a key member of our sleep center team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and out-of-center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
- Determine final testing parameters and procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Review patient history and verify medical orders, following sleep center protocols related to the sleep study.
- Verify patient identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for the study.
- Explain the procedure and orient the patient for in-center or out-of-center sleep testing.
- Select and calibrate equipment for testing, ensuring proper functioning and adjusting as necessary.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
- Follow procedural protocols to ensure collection of accurate data.
- Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality, identifying and correcting artifacts.
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events.
- Implement appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
- Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events using professionally accepted guidelines.
- Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of patients.
- Perform patient education and instruction for out-of-center sleep testing.
- Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
- Assist with inpatient sleep studies, both clinical and research.
- Assist with inventory and supply/equipment ordering.
- Assist with quality assurance checks, infection control monitoring, and corporate compliance.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 5 years minimum experience as a Polysomnographic Technician or Technologist.
- Authorized Polysomnographic Technologist licensed in New York State in good standing.
- Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and holds the Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS).
- Current CPR or BLS certification.
