Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Product Marketing to join our team. As a key member of our marketing organization, you will be responsible for developing and executing the platform's product marketing strategy, including product launches and product positioning & messaging to drive awareness, retention, adoption, and competitive differentiation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Intelligence: Conduct in-depth market research to uncover the needs and preferences of our target audience, analyzing demographics, behaviors, trends, and competitors to shape our product strategy.
  • Product Positioning and Messaging: Develop innovative positioning strategies to set our products apart from the competition and create compelling messaging that resonates with our audience.
  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Collaborate with the marketing team to craft and execute dynamic go-to-market strategies, determining the best channels, pricing strategies, and promotional tactics for successful product launches.
  • Impact & Effectiveness: Define and report on the impact and measurement of product marketing initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, sales, and marketing teams to ensure seamless alignment and cohesive strategies.
  • Sales Enablement: Equip our sales teams with the tools, training, and collateral they need to excel, creating impactful sales presentations, product guides, and competitive analyses.
  • Customer Feedback and Insights: Gather and analyze customer feedback to inform future product development and marketing strategies, using data to gain insights into user behavior and preferences.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Monitor product performance throughout its lifecycle, identifying growth opportunities and adjusting marketing strategies to maximize product success.
  • Thought Leadership: Act as the primary thought leader for the platform, including speaking engagements and content creation (white papers, product briefs, technology write-ups) that support the buyer's journey.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Understand the competitive landscape, be an expert on our competition, and how they are positioned and priced.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a small team of product marketing managers.

Requirements

  • 10-12+ years of experience in hands-on product marketing roles.
  • Outstanding communication skills and extraordinary writing ability to craft impactful content.
  • Deep experience creating messaging and engaging content that translates product scenarios aligned to customer needs.
  • Strong executive communication, storytelling skills, and the ability to translate complex ideas into simple customer stories.
  • Proven track record of successfully launching products, ideally SaaS platform products, including a strong ability to drive and coordinate efforts across teams.
  • Strong ROI-tracking skills, including the ability to prove what is – or isn't – working with product programs.
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous problems and break them down into well-scoped solutions.
  • Willingness to flex between strategic and tactical/execution responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing product marketing teams that have delivered products that lots of customers use and love.
  • High energy, drive-for-results, and big-picture thinker that inspires teams.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate and negotiate with cross-functional teams, being a powerful influencer.
  • Bias for action and making things happen.
  • Deep customer curiosity, leading to a deep understanding of how their businesses work, their pain points, and how they use the product.
  • Genuine product curiosity, leading to a strong understanding of the ecommerce space and the BigCommerce platform.
  • Value market research and have a finger on the pulse of the competition.
  • Understand that human behavior is complex and changing behaviors is a lot harder than building features and technology.
  • Plugged into the worldwide commerce ecosystem of 3rd party developers and solutions, speaking their language and having their respect.
