PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE: The Lead Procurement Specialist serves as a key representative of the healthcare system, executing the procurement processes essential for the operational success of the organization.

This role involves close collaboration with the Supply Chain Management team to ensure the acquisition of high-quality products at optimal prices, thereby enhancing patient care while delivering exceptional service and communication across all departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with SCM leadership to devise strategies aimed at streamlining procurement operations and enhancing overall efficiency.
  • Assist in evaluating contracts to identify opportunities for cost reduction in supply expenses.
  • Exhibit proficiency in forecasting future needs and challenges, while formulating effective solutions.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Reports to the Manager of Procurement, Value Analysis & Contracting.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Healthcare Supply Chain or 7 years of progressively responsible experience in Procurement.

CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Materials Resource Professional is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Proven track record as a Buyer or in a similar procurement capacity, ideally in a senior role. Experience in a Supply Chain environment with at least 5 years of purchasing experience is preferred, particularly within healthcare.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Advanced understanding of purchasing theories and practices, including ethics, standards, contract compliance, and competitive bidding. Proficient in data collection techniques for establishing supply sources, product, and vendor information. Familiarity with process improvement methodologies, market research techniques, and ERP applications, preferably Workday.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Capable of expressing ideas clearly and concisely while actively listening and following directions.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Ability to collaborate effectively with others, treating colleagues and patients with respect and empathy.

TEAM COLLABORATION:
Encourages group goal achievement and supports team decisions through individual contributions.

TIME MANAGEMENT:
Demonstrates effective planning and organization of workload to meet deadlines.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Exhibits sound financial management practices, controlling waste and expenses while operating within budgetary constraints.

Maintains effectiveness in the face of significant changes in work tasks or environment.

KEY DUTIES:
Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of purchasing fundamentals, accounting principles, and business communication. Ensures timely processing of purchase orders with accurate quantities and pricing, adhering to local and regional contracts.

Utilizes web-based resources to verify pricing and contracts, ensuring timely receipt of orders and resolving backorders efficiently.

Collaborates with Shipping/Receiving to address receiving issues promptly and manages product evaluations and trials effectively.
