A Certified Orthotist Prosthetist is a healthcare professional who provides comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic patient care. This includes patient assessment, treatment planning, and implementation of treatment plans to alleviate limitations and enhance function.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of licensure, certification, or registration.
- Assess patients with musculoskeletal abnormalities to determine a functional intervention.
- Produce Orthotic/Prosthetic devices as prescribed by the referring physician.
- Formulate treatment plans with other healthcare providers based on comprehensive assessments.
- Implement treatment plans and oversee certified assistants.
- Utilize follow-up treatment plans to ensure successful outcomes.
- Comply with practice management plans to ensure patient protection.
- Bachelor's degree in orthotics and prosthetics or a related field.
- Certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (CPO) or Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC).
- Knowledge and skills in upper and lower limb prosthetics, cranial, spinal, upper and lower limb orthotics, for pediatric and geriatric patients.
The Certified Orthotist Prosthetist will work in a healthcare setting, interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and other staff members. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
