Job Title: Assistant Library Director

Join Ocean County College as an Assistant Library Director and play a critical role in overseeing and enhancing the library's access services. As a key member of the library team, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective delivery of library resources and services to the college community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Management: Supervise and mentor access services staff, develop and implement policies and procedures, ensure compliance with college policies and applicable laws/regulations, oversee scheduling and workflow, and work with the Dean of Library and Learning Services to develop and manage the yearly budget.
  • Access Services Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of the access services desk, reserve services, information access services, and interlibrary loan functions, develop strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of access services, monitor and analyze usage statistics, and address and resolve user issues.
  • User Support and Engagement: Enhance user experience by developing and implementing programs and services that meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff, conduct user needs assessments and surveys, and collaborate with library staff to deliver instructional sessions and workshops.
  • Technology and Systems Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of library management systems related to access services, work with Library faculty, IT staff, and vendors to ensure the smooth operation of technology, and stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in access services.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Assist in the preparation and management of the Library budget, monitor expenditures, and ensure the effective allocation of resources.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other library departments, college faculty, and administrative units to coordinate services and address library-related issues, participate in library and college committees, and represent the library at meetings, conferences, and professional organizations.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of professional library experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role within access services or a related area.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with library management systems and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional user services and support.
