Position Overview

The Advanced Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for delivering exceptional respiratory therapy services, meeting all necessary competencies for RT I and II. This role includes regular involvement in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or providing Advanced Pulmonary Diagnostic Services, as well as contributing to Cardiopulmonary Wellness initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform patient intakes, ensuring accurate diagnosis criteria and insurance coding that aligns with requirements.

- Conduct thorough patient assessments and orientations, developing comprehensive Individualized Treatment Plans (ITP) tailored to each patient's needs.

- Provide psychosocial support to both patients and their families, utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.

- Lead group exercise sessions, deliver educational lectures, and conduct non-invasive diagnostic testing, including 6-Minute Walk Tests (6MWT), spirometry, and physical performance assessments.

Qualifications

- An Associate's degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program is required.

- A Bachelor of Science degree is preferred, along with licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of California.

- A minimum of three years of inpatient experience in an acute care setting is essential, with at least one year of experience in the Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

- Experience in Pulmonary Rehabilitation is preferred, particularly for the Cardiopulmonary Wellness Center (CPWC).

- Knowledge of chronic lung disease pathophysiology and treatment is crucial.

- Familiarity with exercise training and education, as well as pulmonary function testing and interpretation, is advantageous.

Licensure and Certifications

- Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT) or as a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) is required.

- For Cardiopulmonary Wellness, RRT certification is mandatory, while RPFT certification is preferred.

- Active membership with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) must be maintained.

- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required, with renewals every two years.

- Certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is also beneficial, though not required for CPWC.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $78.06 USD per hour.
