Current Opening: Scientist in Microbiology

Key Responsibilities

As a Scientist in our Microbiology team, you will engage in essential testing and project work within a cGMP laboratory setting:

  • Perform routine microbiological assessments in accordance with cGMPs, SOPs, and relevant standards.
  • Lead and assist in intricate projects concerning:
    • Microbiological testing (e.g., sterility, bioburden, environmental monitoring, water quality)
    • Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of reusable medical devices
    • Efficacy studies for facility cleaning and disinfection
    • Instrument and equipment qualification and performance verification
  • Document findings and analyze data using fundamental statistical methods.
  • Identify and investigate non-conforming products per cGMP guidelines.
  • Prepare, review, and approve GMP and GLP protocols and reports.
  • Review and validate data produced by other personnel.
  • Develop and validate innovative methodologies.
Managerial Responsibilities
  • Oversee or guide assigned technicians on specific projects.
  • May supervise one or more employees, including responsibilities for interviewing, training, directing work, and evaluating performance.
Additional Duties
  • Create and document work instructions and SOPs.
  • Provide solutions to encountered challenges.
  • Initiate and implement preventative and corrective measures.
  • Manage requisitions and approvals for raw materials and supplies.
  • Perform tasks assigned by management with appropriate oversight.
  • Assess equipment and resource needs.
  • Maintain laboratory operations, including equipment upkeep and calibration.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a scientific discipline, with three to five years of relevant cGMP laboratory testing experience.
  • Skills: Ability to comprehend and operate laboratory equipment, alongside proficiency in laboratory techniques.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Studies related to medical device cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
    • GMP sterility testing for pharmaceuticals and medical devices.
    • Rapid sterility testing methodologies.
    • cGMP testing for raw materials, finished products, and stability assessments.
    • Development and execution of complex microbiological studies.
    • Familiarity with steam and ethanol sterilization processes.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and specialized software for laboratory tools and instrumentation is essential.

Communication Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, write reports and procedures, and effectively communicate with colleagues.

Mathematical Skills

Competence in calculating figures and amounts, including proportions, percentages, and basic algebra.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow instructions in various formats and effectively manage tasks and time.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand, sit, and walk, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

The work environment includes a combination of office and laboratory settings, with moderate noise levels typical of laboratory operations.
