Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Regional Underwriting Manager.
FLSA Status: Exempt

Role Purpose:

The Senior Government Underwriter is tasked with assessing and determining loan risk for Conventional, FHA, and VA loans that receive favorable recommendations from automated underwriting systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze file documentation to confirm compliance with Investor/Agency program standards.
  • Ensure accuracy by reconciling credit reports with loan applications and considering all liabilities in the Automated Underwriting System (AUS).
  • Evaluate income, assets, collateral, and title documentation in accordance with AUS findings and investor guidelines.
  • Make informed credit decisions based on thorough underwriting reviews and program eligibility.
  • Communicate credit decisions, including necessary conditions, within established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Review and resolve conditions promptly, adhering to SLAs.
  • Address findings from post-closing and quality control reviews in a timely manner.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders in alignment with Bay Equity's vision and core values.
  • Handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
  • Conduct manual underwriting with secondary reviews as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience.
  • FHA DE delegation is required; VA LAPP/SAR experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with USDA loans is a plus.
  • Proficiency in handling multiple financed properties and manufactured homes is essential.
  • Familiarity with DU and LPA systems is required.
  • Experience with Encompass software is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA guidelines is mandatory.
  • Understanding of VA guidelines is a plus.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Compensation: We offer a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 401k plan. Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $85,000 to $95,000 annually. This is a full-time role.
