Job Summary

This role is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in the Pediatric Liver and Intestinal Transplant Surgery Department at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. The Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) will work collaboratively with the surgical team to provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing liver and intestinal transplants.

Key Responsibilities
  • First/second assist in the operating room during pediatric transplant surgeries or transplant-related cases, including liver, intestine, combined organ, and multi-visceral transplants, and liver resections.
  • Provide weekend and after-hours/night coverage for transplant surgery cases.
  • Take call for transplant surgery cases.
  • May require cross-coverage as the primary provider for inpatient surgical management of pediatric liver and intestinal post-transplant patients, including rounding with the surgical team and writing notes and orders for patients on the floor and in the intensive care unit.
  • May require cross-coverage as the primary provider for inpatient medical management of pediatric liver and intestinal transplant patients admitted to the hospital, including rounding with the transplant medical team and writing notes and orders for patients on the floor and in the intensive care unit.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of California.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • An individual Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license issued by the United States DEA for Schedule II-V controlled substances, required only if prescribing controlled substances to outpatients.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of California.
  • National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) from an agency accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS).
