SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Position Overview:

The primary objective of this role is to implement the principles and methodologies associated with the assessment and treatment of communication disorders. This includes the development and execution of speech-language therapy programs tailored for students.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Utilize standardized screening assessments and alternative methods to identify students with potential speech and language challenges.
  2. Establish an effective referral system to address service requests from educators, guardians, and other stakeholders.
  3. Select, administer, and interpret diagnostic evaluations to pinpoint students with speech and language impairments.
  4. Adhere to state and district protocols to ascertain student eligibility for speech and language therapy services.
  5. Engage in multidisciplinary teams and discussions to advocate for student needs.
  6. Employ diagnostic data alongside other relevant educational information to formulate an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and recommend appropriate speech and language therapy services.
  7. Deliver a range of speech and language therapy services customized to meet individual student requirements.
  8. Continuously monitor and assess the progress of students receiving therapy services.
  9. Advise on reevaluation processes for students to determine the necessity for ongoing therapy or potential dismissal.
  10. Select, utilize, and maintain necessary materials and equipment for effective speech and language therapy programs.
  11. Provide training and resources to school staff, parents, and the community regarding the objectives of the speech and language therapy initiative.
  12. Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
  13. Collaborate with educators and families to support student outcomes.
  14. Communicate with external agencies to further support student needs.
  15. Oversee the activities of speech-language assistants to ensure program service delivery.
  16. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all students.
  17. Work in cooperation with district personnel and other support staff to promote student welfare.
  18. Comply with all applicable rules and regulations set forth by the state and school board.
  19. Engage in training programs aimed at enhancing individual skills relevant to the position.
  20. Stay informed on current developments, literature, and technical resources related to the field.
  21. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and guidelines.
  22. Follow federal and state laws, as well as school board policies.
  23. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree in speech pathology is required, along with Florida state certification in speech-language impairment. The school board may consider hiring individuals with a bachelor's degree to address critical staffing needs for students requiring speech-language services.

Individuals eligible for a temporary certificate in speech-language impairment may be considered, provided they enroll in and maintain good standing in a graduate program leading to a master's degree in speech-language pathology, unless otherwise restricted by state law.

Proficiency in computer skills relevant to the position is also required.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves light work, which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.

Employment Terms:

Salary and benefits will align with the district's approved compensation framework. The length of the work year and hours of employment will be determined by the school board.
