Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Upward Bound and Math-Science Initiatives at Montana Tech. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math-Science projects, administration, and supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, execute, monitor, and evaluate project objectives to ensure the success of the Upward Bound and Math-Science initiatives.
  • Establish, monitor, and administer budget funds on both grants to ensure effective resource management.
  • Collect tracking data and write annual reports to demonstrate the impact of the projects.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate all project staff to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Assist in identifying, recruiting, and selecting program participants to ensure a diverse and talented pool.
  • Establish procedures to maintain the student and administrative record system to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Review Student Progress Evaluation and Review (SPEARs) for participants in conjunction with the Coordinators to ensure accurate tracking and evaluation.
  • Provide leadership for effective parental and community involvement to foster a supportive environment.
  • Travel monthly throughout the target area for project management meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Science, Mathematics, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working with diverse youth populations to ensure cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Experience using budget software to collect data and write reports to ensure effective resource management.
  • Knowledge of student development theories related to retention and graduation of at-risk high school students to inform project design and implementation.
  • Clear understanding of Montana post-secondary educational systems and procedures to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • 3 years of responsibility in supervision and program management in higher education to demonstrate leadership and expertise.
  • Experience in designating, managing, and implementing TRIO or similar programs to ensure familiarity with federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Experience delivering academic support services to first-generation, low-income students to ensure a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of this population.
  • Experience managing federal grant monies in accordance with federal guidelines to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Excellent supervisory, oral, and written communication skills to ensure effective leadership and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a STEM field to ensure expertise in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • TRIO Pre-College program experience to demonstrate familiarity with federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Training and experience with writing federal grants to ensure expertise in grant writing and management.
  • Ability to overcome barriers similar to those of program participants to ensure empathy and understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations to ensure cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to network with university departments and collaborate across programs to ensure effective partnerships and collaborations.
  • Willingness to work extended hours during peak event times, as well as, annual performance reporting and proposal writing seasons to ensure flexibility and adaptability.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds to ensure physical ability to perform job duties.
  • Ability to ride on a bus or drive a vehicle for extended trips to ensure flexibility and adaptability.
