Job Responsibilities
  • The Pharmacist collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy, adhering to established protocols to compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies based on physician prescriptions.
  • Engages in Performance Improvement initiatives within the healthcare facility.
  • Provides consultation and guidance to Administration, Medical Staff, and hospital personnel regarding quality, regulatory, and risk management matters.
  • Acts as a consultant and support resource for all clinical and medical staff.
  • Assists the Director in coordinating and executing Pharmacy operations.
  • Interprets medication orders, compounds, and dispenses pharmaceuticals in compliance with legal, ethical, and professional pharmacy standards.
  • Supervises technical support personnel.
  • Contributes to clinical, quality management, and educational programs.
  • Offers support across all departments concerning patient care for individuals aged 18 and older, including the geriatric population.
  • Participates in the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in-service training for hospital staff and consultations with patients and medical personnel.
  • Actively assists fellow Pharmacists and Technicians in routine tasks as needed.
  • Directs the activities of Pharmacy staff, providing professional and technical guidance.
  • Exhibits professional judgment in delivering therapeutic and drug information to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates competence in managing treatment for patients across various age groups, particularly adults and geriatrics.
  • Capable of processing a minimum of 40 medication orders per four-hour shift.
  • Generates necessary reports, including Pick I.V. and Production reports.
  • Accurately performs Backup Procedures.
  • Assists Technicians with technical responsibilities.
  • Maintains aseptic techniques throughout the pharmacy operations.
  • Ensures proper recycling of pharmaceutical products.
  • Reviews technician-prepared products for accuracy prior to release.
  • Monitors Technician compliance with I.V. refrigerator temperature and hood cleaning logs.
  • Ensures the correct filling of medication orders.
  • Verifies support staff accuracy before medication distribution.
  • Prioritizes tasks to address STAT, Now, and Waiting orders based on urgency.
  • Completes fill on arrival orders as required.
  • Reviews patient profiles to ensure safe and appropriate drug therapy.
  • Avoids therapeutic duplication and significant drug interactions.
  • Prevents adverse drug reactions related to allergies.
  • Ensures medication appropriateness based on patient-specific factors such as height, weight, age, renal function, and disease state.
  • Oversees Pharmacokinetics Dosing Service to ensure priority dosing is suitable.
  • Interprets laboratory levels accurately and modifies doses as necessary.
  • Documents progress notes in accordance with established protocols.
  • Dates, times, and initials all vials for reuse compliance.
  • Calculates fluid, electrolyte, and caloric needs effectively.
  • Monitors patient suitability for specific formulations.
  • Clarifies any ambiguous orders with the prescribing physician.
  • Stays informed about new pharmaceutical developments.
  • Ensures proper sequencing when adding additives.
  • Maintains accurate syringe and vial counts reflecting production.
  • Labels containers accurately, including necessary auxiliary labels.
  • Completes packaging with appropriate seals and protective wraps.
  • Secures the Pharmacy environment and controlled substances.
  • Communicates any pending issues to staff promptly.
  • Prepares unit of use dosages whenever feasible.
  • Keeps the Director updated on workload status.
  • Prioritizes work to prepare STAT, Now, and Waiting orders based on urgency.
Job Requirements
  • Possession of a valid KY BOP license and CPh certification is essential.
  • BLS certification must be attached to the submission and obtained through the American Heart Association; RQI certifications are not acceptable.
Schedule Information
  • Shifts will vary throughout the week, typically from 8 AM to 8 PM.
  • Availability for every third weekend after completing orientation.
