Role Summary:
The Community Support Specialist (CSS) operates under the guidance of the Director of Programs, delivering assistance in both home and community environments. This role is centered around empowering individuals through a person-centered methodology, which includes:

  • Building respectful relationships with individuals to understand their unique needs through assessment and observation.
  • Offering guidance and support in daily living activities such as household chores, personal hygiene, cooking, and financial management.
  • Encouraging self-advocacy by identifying available services, promoting personal choice, and clarifying rights and responsibilities.
  • Facilitating effective communication between individuals and their support networks, including family and community resources.
  • Managing crisis situations with sound judgment, ensuring the safety and well-being of those supported.
  • Documenting necessary records for each individual served while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Acting in alignment with the mission of Central New York Quest Incorporated.
  • Completing mandatory training sessions as required.
  • Engaging in regular supervision meetings with the Director of Programs or designated personnel.
  • Having reliable transportation for providing services in various locations.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for client transportation.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Availability for both daytime and evening shifts.
