Role Summary:
The Community Support Specialist (CSS) operates under the guidance of the Director of Programs, delivering assistance in both home and community environments. This role is centered around empowering individuals through a person-centered methodology, which includes:
- Building respectful relationships with individuals to understand their unique needs through assessment and observation.
- Offering guidance and support in daily living activities such as household chores, personal hygiene, cooking, and financial management.
- Encouraging self-advocacy by identifying available services, promoting personal choice, and clarifying rights and responsibilities.
- Facilitating effective communication between individuals and their support networks, including family and community resources.
- Managing crisis situations with sound judgment, ensuring the safety and well-being of those supported.
- Documenting necessary records for each individual served while maintaining confidentiality.
- Acting in alignment with the mission of Central New York Quest Incorporated.
- Completing mandatory training sessions as required.
- Engaging in regular supervision meetings with the Director of Programs or designated personnel.
- Having reliable transportation for providing services in various locations.
- Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Programs.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for client transportation.
- A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Availability for both daytime and evening shifts.
