Job Overview

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor will report directly to the General Manager and will be responsible for managing the vehicle maintenance program to ensure the safety and efficiency of the fleet. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in advising senior management on potential operational challenges and will have extensive experience in report generation and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a diverse fleet of over 200 transit buses, which collectively travel more than 10 million miles annually, while managing a team of over 50 personnel.
  • Organize staff schedules and ensure effective oversight of mechanics and shop personnel.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, and assess the performance of team members.
  • Coordinate maintenance tasks performed by external vendors.
  • Develop efficient repair schedules and review cost estimates for repairs.
  • Prioritize maintenance and repair tasks based on material availability and operational needs.
  • Ensure that all company and client vehicles are maintained in optimal working condition.
  • Oversee the fueling, cleaning, and operational readiness of all vehicles.
  • Establish and implement safety protocols and maintain a secure working environment.
  • Contribute to the formulation and management of the operational budget.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to service delivery methods.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of facilities and grounds.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • ASE Certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain it.
  • CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements is preferred or the ability to obtain it (training available).
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty automotive and transit equipment, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations governing the safe operation of maintenance facilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and mechanical or electrical diagrams.
  • Competence in writing routine reports and correspondence, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, manipulate objects, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is primarily conducted indoors in well-ventilated facilities equipped with telephones and computers.
  • Employees may spend extended periods sitting, typing, or looking at computer screens.
  • Must be capable of bending, twisting, and lifting as required.
