Position Overview

The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in acquiring materials, supplies, and services under the most advantageous conditions for the organization. This position involves vendor qualification, bid evaluation, and price negotiation for goods and services. The Specialist is responsible for tracking purchases, assessing vendor quality, and maintaining an up-to-date vendor database.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to this role, though additional tasks may be assigned:

  • BIW and Assembly Experience Required: Engage in purchasing commodities as directed by the Purchasing Manager, leveraging negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing while ensuring adherence to quality standards and delivery timelines.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Develop and sustain productive relationships with vendors.
  • Cost Savings Tracking: Document and monitor cost savings within the system, accounting for both tangible and intangible savings.
  • Documentation Management: Organize all documentation and quotes for auditing purposes, along with Purchase Order confirmations.
  • Order Follow-Up: Review all outstanding orders and monitor supplier quality and delivery performance.
  • Collaboration with Shipping and Receiving: Coordinate transportation of purchases with the Shipping and Receiving department.
  • RMA Management: Create and manage Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) in case of issues.
  • Inventory Control: Inspect returned or exchanged merchandise and collaborate with inventory control to optimize inventory levels.
  • Quality System Adherence: Comply with Quality Systems and engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Attendance: Maintain regular and predictable attendance as a fundamental aspect of this role.

Education and Experience: An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or five years of relevant experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.

Computer Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Language Proficiency: Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence, and to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Proficiency: Capability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, as well as apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
