Job Summary

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator to join our team. As a Referral Coordinator, you will play a critical role in planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the referral office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and monitor daily work flow processes and activities to ensure timely referral and insurance deadlines are met.
  • Review and analyze managed care patient visits to ensure proper documentation of required services.
  • Coordinate internal functions and recordkeeping related to managed care organizations to meet compliance.
  • Collaborate with staff in LG Patient Financial Services to ensure physician credentialing is current and required documentation is on file.
  • Organize in-service programs for staff regarding referral and insurance process changes and updates.
  • Liaise between patients and insurance companies to explain requirements for referral and authorization compliance.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with internal and external staff to resolve patient questions and complaints regarding referral and insurance issues.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Maintain knowledge of registration and scheduling processes and be able to fill in as needed based on office workload or staffing demands.
  • Assist the Billing Coordinator with assigned tasks as needed.
  • Provide educational sessions to resident physicians and staff.
  • Identify system dysfunction or discrepancies and report to Supervisor/Manager, making recommendations for improving current department and hospital-wide procedures.
  • Assist with other projects or responsibilities as required by Supervisor/Manager.
  • Address gaps in care to help patients reconcile any remaining health care screenings or surveillances.
  • May outreach to patients who express a desire for a new LGHP PCP to schedule an appointment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or certificate.
  • One year of computer experience.
  • One year of clerical or clinical experience in a medical practice setting.
  • One year of experience in medical referral/insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of using medical terminology.
  • Basic keyboarding ability and telephone/interpersonal etiquette is required.
