Meteorologist - KPTV

Job Summary:

Gray Television, Inc. is seeking a skilled Meteorologist to join our First Alert Weather Team at KPTV. This role involves working closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers, and producers to deliver comprehensive weather coverage for our newscasts, streaming updates, digital content, and severe weather events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze raw scientific data, models, and other relevant information to create accurate weather forecasts for our viewing area.
• Develop engaging and conversational weather presentations for broadcast, streaming, digital, and social media audiences.
• Identify and communicate the key weather story of the day to a cross-platform audience.
• Accurately forecast and track severe weather events.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist preferred.
• Operational radar knowledge and proficiency in the TWC MAX system preferred.
• BS/BA in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Communications, or Journalism, or equivalent background.
• Seals of the National Weather Association and/or American Meteorological Society are preferred but not necessary.
• Flexibility with respect to scheduling and assigned work shifts, especially considering the unpredictable nature of weather events.
• Proficiency in producing written weather content for our digital platforms.
