Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing nutrition education and support services to women, infants, and children in Southeast Alaska. The successful candidate will have a strong background in nutrition and experience working with diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for the WIC program and provide nutrition education to participants
  • Orient new clients on approved WIC foods and correct redemption procedures
  • Prescribe and issue food packages based on client need
  • Refer clients to other health programs as needed
  • Provide participant-centered nutrition and lifestyle education
  • Participate in planning for community nutrition events and group classes
  • Perform receptionist/clerical duties, including answering phones and maintaining client files
  • Communicate and collaborate with other programs and agencies
  • Deliver WIC's breastfeeding promotion and support services
  • Perform outreach activities, including regular contact with partner agencies and community events
Requirements
  • Must successfully complete the WIC Competent Professional Authority (CPA) Training Program within 4 months of hire
  • Certification requires 12 hours of continuing education annually to maintain competency
  • WIC Competent Professional Authority (CPA) Certification - preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two years' work experience in a clerical field, including knowledge of computers and their applications - required
  • Three years' work experience in WIC or health promotion - preferred
  • Experience working with women, young children, and families - preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of maternal, infant, and child nutrition needs
  • Knowledge of general office skills, including file maintenance and customer-oriented telephone skills
  • Knowledge of computers and basic software applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MicroSoft Outlook
  • Skilled at communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Skilled at organizing and prioritizing time/tasks with multiple demands
  • Skilled at following written and verbal instruction
