Regional Operations Leader - Specialty Pharmacy

POSITION SUMMARY

Accountable for overseeing all operational aspects within a designated region. This role requires a strong presence within the pharmacy teams and active participation in strategic planning initiatives. Demonstrates leadership and a commitment to excellence in quality management, ensuring customer satisfaction and continuous performance enhancement. Supports and adheres to all operational policies and strategic initiatives.

MANAGEMENT DUTIES:
  • Directs business operations across the assigned region, including financial oversight and accountability. Manages profit and loss statements, ensuring effective expense management.
  • Engages in specialty pharmacy accreditation processes and guarantees that pharmacy personnel complete all necessary training.
  • Supervises subordinate staff, including but not limited to Pharmacist-In-Charge (PICs).
  • Conducts interviews for open positions and makes hiring decisions as required.
  • Establishes clear objectives and provides access to training, coaching, and constructive feedback. Ensures effective performance management practices.
  • Evaluates employee performance through an annual review process as defined by Human Resources.
  • Addresses behavioral issues and administers disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Handles escalated complaints and resolves operational challenges.
  • Implements effective business processes and manages performance through key metrics.
  • Oversees relocations, renovations, new pharmacy openings, and closures.
  • Contributes to mid to long-term strategic planning for the organization.
  • Performs duties in alignment with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the core values of the organization.
  • Mentors PICs, managers, and other staff for professional growth and succession planning.
  • Ensures the successful rollout of new pharmacy initiatives and their ongoing execution.
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels in pharmacies and coordinates temporary staffing as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISION OF PHARMACY STAFF AND FACILITIES:
  • In the absence of the Pharmacist-In-Charge, assumes the role of supervising Pharmacist.
  • Responsible for the overall safety and security of pharmacy operations.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as company policies.
  • Reviews and assesses dispensing incidents.
  • Accountable for loss prevention activities, including investigations of discrepancies; monitors compliance. Conducts audits of physical inventories at each location.
BUSINESS GROWTH:
  • Establishes goals and strategies for retaining existing business and achieving growth targets.
  • Oversees the operational implementation of new business agreements, including third-party and manual programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Pharm.D. or BS Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must hold a current Pharmacist license in good standing.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in retail, specialty, or mail-order pharmacy management.
Preferred:
  • Experience managing multiple locations.
  • Background in clinical and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy operations, workflow, and pharmaceutical care practices.

  • Solid financial and business insight.
  • Ability to evaluate process efficiency and implement improvements.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in specialty disease states and service models.
  • Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations.
  • Proficient in workflow concepts related to pharmacy operations.
  • Thorough understanding of controlled substance regulations.
  • Knowledge of Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) for specialty products.
  • Possesses the necessary expertise in pharmacotherapeutics to manage pharmacy patient programs.
  • Exhibits strong organizational and time management skills, professionalism, and effective communication abilities.
