Job Title: Lead Technologist-Rye

Join the New York Blood Center as a Lead Technologist-Rye and play a critical role in ensuring the quality of blood products for New York and surrounding states.

Job Summary

The Lead Technologist-Rye is responsible for assisting in the supervision of and overseeing the day-to-day shift activities and workflow in the laboratory. This position leads and provides feedback to assigned staff, ensuring that laboratory SOPs, practices, policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations are followed.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the supervision of and oversee the day-to-day shift activities and workflow in the laboratory.
  • Lead and provide feedback to assigned staff.
  • Ensure laboratory SOPs, practices, policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations are followed.
  • Triage and perform patient testing.
  • Assure optimal product inventory and place product orders for internal and external requests during shifts.
  • Perform platelet antibody screen and crossmatching.
  • Perform or delegate quality control on automated hematology analyzer, currently Sysmex XE-2100D.
  • Assign work based on priority and shift conditions and review logs and recap reports on a daily basis.
  • Ensure smooth transition from shift to shift.
  • Makes recommendations to improve business unit operations.
  • Work on-call as necessary.
  • Work OT to cover shifts and holidays.
  • Any related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or
  • Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or
  • Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation

Experience:

  • If bachelor's degree with at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
  • If master's degree with at least two years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
  • Pursuant to New York Codes, Rules and Regulations, Title 10 Section Qualifications of Laboratory Supervisor (c), there is no substitute for the experience criteria.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • NY State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License

Salary:

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed hiring rate is $61.03p/hr.

For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience
