Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer

The Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for ensuring that suppliers provide high-quality parts, components, and materials. This role involves participating in the selection and qualification of suppliers based on Vicor Corporation's standards, as well as monitoring components throughout the manufacturing process. The engineer will address and resolve supplier-related issues as they arise.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this pivotal role, the engineer will focus on:
- Supplier Selection and Qualification
- Supplier Development and Maintenance
- Implementation of Supplier Risk Mitigation Strategies
- Resolution of manufacturing, process, and quality issues with suppliers
- Conducting Supplier Surveillance and Audits
- Managing the Supplier Quality Management System
Specific tasks include:
- Assisting in the identification of new suppliers while collaborating with procurement to secure optimal components regarding quality, delivery, and cost.
- Developing and executing Part Quality Planning for both new and existing components as part of the New Product Introduction process.
- Establishing quality and technical expectations for suppliers.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives at supplier locations through Value Analysis, Kaizen activities, PFMEA, Control Plans, and 8D methodologies.
- Investigating supplier-related manufacturing, process, and quality concerns associated with materials on the production floor.
- Issuing formal corrective action requests to suppliers and collaborating with them to resolve issues.
- Creating inspection criteria and conducting defect analysis for Receiving Inspection.
- Performing on-site supplier audits and facilitating review meetings.
- Acting as the technical liaison between Vicor Corporation and its suppliers.
- Reviewing new component PPAP submissions.
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a high-tech, high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Proven leadership abilities and a strong focus on achieving results.
- Experience with automated mechanical inspection equipment.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills, with a demonstrated ability to implement process changes in manufacturing and engineering settings.
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies; certification from the American Society of Quality is advantageous.
- The capability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
