Position Overview

The Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that suppliers provide high-quality parts, components, and materials. This role involves engaging in the selection and qualification of suppliers in accordance with Vicor Corporation's standards, as well as overseeing components from procurement through the production cycle. The engineer will address and resolve supplier-related issues as they arise, while also evaluating suppliers' internal processes to gauge their overall performance and providing constructive feedback.

Key Responsibilities

This position serves as a critical function within Vicor's supplier quality framework. The engineer will assist in the following areas:

  • Supplier Selection: Participate in the identification and evaluation of potential suppliers.
  • Supplier Qualification: Ensure suppliers meet the necessary quality standards.
  • Supplier Development: Support ongoing supplier improvement initiatives.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop strategies to minimize supplier-related risks.
  • Issue Resolution: Address manufacturing, process, and quality issues with suppliers and implement corrective actions.
  • Supplier Audits: Conduct regular surveillance and audits of supplier operations.
  • Quality Management System: Oversee the implementation of supplier quality management protocols.
Specific Duties Include:
  • Assisting in the selection of new suppliers while collaborating with procurement to secure optimal quality and cost.
  • Developing and executing Part Quality Planning for both new and existing components as part of the New Product Introduction process.
  • Establishing quality and technical expectations for suppliers.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives at supplier facilities using methodologies such as Value Analysis, Kaizen, PFMEA, Control Plans, and 8D problem-solving.
  • Investigating quality issues related to supplier materials on the production floor and in Material Review Board (MRB) processes.
  • Issuing formal corrective action requests to suppliers and collaborating with them to resolve issues.
  • Creating inspection criteria and conducting defect analysis for incoming materials.
  • Performing on-site supplier audits and facilitating review meetings.
  • Acting as the technical liaison between Vicor and its suppliers.
  • Reviewing new component Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions.
Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a high-tech, high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proven leadership abilities and a strong focus on achieving results.
  • Experience with automated mechanical inspection tools.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive process improvements.
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies; certification from the American Society of Quality is advantageous.
  • The capacity to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
