Job Summary

The Assistant Resident Director is a key member of the Residence Life team at Duquesne University, responsible for providing exceptional student development services and programs in the Living Learning Centers. This role requires a strong commitment to creating a safe, secure, and positive living environment for all resident students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a residence hall, ensuring a high level of student satisfaction and engagement.
  • Develop and implement programs that foster community, faith, and learning among resident students, in collaboration with Resident Assistants and other Residence Life staff.
  • Coordinate the front desk operation, including staff hiring, training, and scheduling.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide on-call support to ensure the well-being of students.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and University events to stay informed and contribute to the Residence Life community.
  • Monitor and report facilities and housekeeping needs to the Director of Residence Life.
  • Submit regular reports, including duty reports, weekly reports, and occupancy numbers.
  • Promote effective communication within the Living Learning Center and with Residence Life staff, University employees, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and the Resident Director.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
  • Previous residence hall administration experience.
  • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field from an accredited institution (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to supervise Resident Assistants, Graduate Assistants, Student Aides, and clerical staff.
  • Considerable knowledge of and appreciation for the objectives and principles of a residential student living program.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation of University Residence Halls.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect, consistent with the University's Mission.
  • Commitment to the University's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience with and understanding of the broad diversity of the University community.
