Position Summary:
The Water Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) for our operations. This role ensures that our water quality consistently meets or exceeds the standards set by regulatory agencies. The supervisor will lead a team of Water Quality Specialists and Samplers, ensuring adherence to environmental laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision to the Water Quality Sampler team, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Engage with regulatory officials and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison for water quality issues, ensuring effective communication with community and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with the Environmental Health & Safety Manager to ensure compliance with major program initiatives.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts related to water quality issues.
  • Ensure all monitoring and reporting requirements are met in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Lead the preparation and maintenance of compliance records and reports.
  • Oversee the sample collection schedule to ensure timely compliance with all sampling requirements.
  • Participate in compliance audits and serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Address water quality complaints and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Monitor water quality permits and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and address root causes of water quality issues in collaboration with Operations and Engineering teams.
  • Assist in budget preparation by providing necessary water quality information.
  • Review and recommend improvements to laboratory procedures and analytical methods.
  • Develop and enhance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for water quality management.
  • Facilitate training and development of team members to ensure effective performance.
  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance within the team.
  • Conduct periodic safety training and ensure proper use of safety equipment.
  • Travel as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Complete special assignments as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in water/wastewater quality and environmental compliance.
  • Experience in water utility operations is preferred.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of SDWA and CWA regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Physical Requirements:
This position primarily operates in an office environment but may require work in various settings, including outdoor locations and water treatment facilities.
