Job Description

This position is under direct supervision of the Building Official or the supervising building inspector. Building Inspector inspects building and structures in all stages of construction. Building Inspectors shall be knowledgeable in the Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical and other codes and ordinances related to building construction and have the ability to review and understand construction plans. This position requires technical skills in being able to read and understand plans and inspect complex building and structures.

We only consider candidates living locally or within the State of CA. We do not pay any relocation expenses.

This position is available as a full-time or as-needed role, depending on the candidate's preferences and the needs of CSG Consultants.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field inspections of industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to assure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Investigate and make reports on apparent violations of the applicable codes and regulations.
  • Provide code interpretation to the client, building professionals & the public.
  • Review of building plans and specifications.
  • Make recommendations for corrections and confer with contractors and builders to resolve violations of building and related codes.
  • Resolve problems and set priorities.
  • Read and interpret building plans, specifications and building codes.
  • Detect deviations from plans or specifications and standard construction practices.
  • Handle several tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to details in an environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Maintain basic record keeping practices on paper or with a computer.
  • Work effectively with government entities, private interest, contractors and professional clientele.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Possess an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Combination Residential or Commercial Building Inspector. All licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Building Inspector; Or 5+ years experience as a Construction Superintendent; Or 10 years Construction experience at Journeyman level.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class "C" California driver's license is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Working Conditions:

  • Requires extensive physical exertion during on-site inspections.
  • Will require physical flexibility & dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach, crouch and climb.
  • Will drive to job sites and to visit clients.

Pay:

The compensation for this position is $30.00 to $36.00 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
