Job Summary:

The State Water Resources Control Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Services Manager II to serve as the Tribal Affairs Program Manager. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing statewide tribal engagement strategies, building and maintaining relationships with California Native American tribes, and ensuring the effective delivery of water resources management services to these communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement tribal engagement strategies to promote positive government-to-government relationships and ensure equitable access to safe drinking water for Native American tribes and tribal communities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with California Native American tribes, including tribal leaders, officials, and community members.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of water resources management services to Native American tribes and tribal communities.
  • Develop and manage budgets, programs, and projects related to tribal affairs and water resources management.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to tribal communities on water resources management issues.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as public administration, environmental science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in tribal affairs, water resources management, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including tribal leaders, officials, and community members.
  • Knowledge of California Native American tribes, their cultures, and their histories.
