The Clinical Laboratory Technician serves as a vital component of the healthcare team, tasked with the collection of blood specimens from patients, ensuring the preservation of specimen integrity, and managing the appropriate transportation, processing, and preparation of all samples. Additionally, this role encompasses clerical responsibilities such as responding to inquiries from various departments, distributing laboratory reports, and liaising with external laboratories utilized by the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects blood specimen samples through venipuncture or capillary techniques as requested by healthcare providers, taking into account the patient's age.
  • Receives and evaluates specimens for acceptability based on established protocols.
  • Facilitates the delivery of blood products to surgical units and ensures the timely transport of surgical specimens to the relevant laboratory sections.
  • Processes, organizes, or packages all specimens received, excluding Anatomic Pathology samples.
  • Handles inquiries regarding laboratory results, specimen status, and general departmental information.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, colleagues, and visitors, considering the age of the patient.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures of the healthcare facility and department.
  • Performs additional clinical and administrative tasks to support departmental needs.
  • Engages in professional development and actively participates in the department's Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Undertakes other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified Phlebotomy Program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Phlebotomy, preferably in an acute care environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Exemplary customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH).
  • Completion of Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days of hire, if not already certified (applicable within LA City only).
