Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

This role involves continuous patient evaluation, planning, execution, and assessment of care plans for all patients undergoing radiation oncology treatment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting initial nursing assessments to identify current and potential health issues prior to the patient's radiotherapy.
  • Weekly evaluations of patients during treatment, including monitoring side effects and medication requirements. Follow-up assessments post-treatment are also required.
  • Delivering direct patient care, including dressing changes, medication administration, IV management, and catheter insertion.
  • Providing psychological support and counseling, and coordinating with social services when necessary.
  • Developing discharge plans for patients completing treatment, offering guidance on post-treatment care.
  • Collaborating with the Education Department to provide training on nursing care related to radiation therapy.
  • Participating in research protocols as applicable.
  • Engaging in weekly chart audits and relevant meetings related to patient care in radiation therapy.
  • Maintaining organized nursing areas and examination rooms.
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN license in Virginia.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Preferred experience of two years in Oncology nursing.
  • BLS certification is mandatory.
  • ACLS certification from an accredited agency must be obtained within 180 days of hire.
