Job Overview

Under general supervision, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II conducts analyses on various sample types. This role requires maintaining accurate records and exercising independent judgment to produce reliable test results. The position emphasizes quality, efficiency, and safety in laboratory operations, contributing effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Independently performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing through both manual and automated methods.
2. Adheres to all regulatory agency guidelines (CLIA 88, TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.) and addresses any concerns as they arise.
3. Identifies and resolves analytical issues independently, troubleshoots equipment malfunctions, and takes corrective actions regarding testing procedures, patient results, and specimen integrity, seeking guidance when necessary.
4. Reviews and documents quality control measures, determining the acceptability of testing, patient results, and instrument performance by applying QA/QC principles daily.
5. Addresses clinical and customer inquiries, resolving issues confidentially while maintaining integrity and discretion.
6. Assists in the development and modification of laboratory procedures and takes on additional responsibilities as needed.
7. Troubleshoots and resolves problems independently, documenting corrective actions taken.
8. Participates in mandatory education, training, and in-service meetings relevant to the department.
9. Performs other duties as assigned related to the job description.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or a related scientific field is required.

Experience:
While no prior experience is required, three years of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:
ASCP certification or an equivalent is preferred.
