Overview of the Role


MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated Radiology Technologist for our Ambulatory Services.

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for executing both clinical and administrative responsibilities within the MedStar Ambulatory Services framework, adhering to established protocols and guidelines. Under the direction of a physician, this role involves patient assessment, care pathways, venipuncture, laboratory evaluations, and patient follow-up. Certified Clinical Care Specialists (CCSs) in Radiologic Technology are also tasked with capturing and transmitting X-ray diagnostic images. This position ensures proper documentation in medical records and enhances patient flow efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtains requested images while assessing their technical quality. Ensures images are sent to the correct locations for interpretation and repeats images as necessary. Understands the equipment and procedures utilized by all specialists within the facility. Facilitates prescription refills for patients post-physician approval and documentation; completes test requisitions. Aids the physician in patient assessments, testing, and education.
  • Maintains personal credentials for radiography. Keeps a log system and performs necessary follow-ups for pap smears, Pb levels, HIV, mammograms, and STDs. Ensures cleanliness and organization of workspaces. Reports any unsafe conditions promptly. Manages patient flow through consistent communication with patients and their families, demonstrating genuine concern for their time and comfort.
  • Ensures that all equipment is functioning correctly and reports any issues immediately. Cleans, stocks, and sterilizes equipment; prepares patient rooms for care delivery. Disposes of outdated medications from the cabinet. Conducts annual reporting, including protective device surveys and repeat analysis for diagnostic imaging. Performs a variety of tasks consistent with the scope of practice, including spirometry/PFTs, patient vitals and BMI, EKGs, vision and hearing tests, splinting, tuberculosis skin testing, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, venipuncture, and general patient care under physician supervision. Removes sutures/staples with provider authorization after examination.
  • Prepares written documentation such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, and progress reports. Fosters a respectful atmosphere towards patients, families, vendors, and colleagues. Communicates and acts in a professional manner. Provides care aligned with MedStar's mission, vision, and values, ensuring patient confidence and loyalty by exceeding expectations. Acts as a mentor for clinical staff, leading by example and encouraging staff development. Advocates for patients throughout the care process and assists in patient discharge, ensuring clarity for patients or family members.
  • Supports clinic team members during downtimes and when patient bottlenecks occur, ensuring optimal patient flow; manages variable patient volumes throughout the workday. Provides telephone triage services. Conducts follow-up calls and communicates lab tests and clinical results in accordance with policy. Transports patients to the radiographic room and prepares and maintains the room. Under physician supervision, prepares and administers oral medications and injections limited to intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular.
Qualifications:
  • Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting.
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification.
  • Radiology Technologist license in the State of Maryland.
  • CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
  • CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) by American Association of Medical Assistants or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) through American Medical Technologies preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of medical office experience; experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Completion of an approved R.T (Radiology Tech) program preferred.
  • Completion of an approved M.A (Medical Assistant) program preferred.
