As an Inclusive Education Specialist, you will assess and deliver tailored educational services to children with special needs. Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

STANDARD 1: Professional Responsibilities

  • Design and implement lesson plans tailored to the individualized needs of students, ensuring a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Conduct screenings for new students and prepare comprehensive educational assessments.
  • Complete annual evaluations for each child, documenting current performance levels and setting goals for the upcoming academic year.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings to coordinate educational and therapeutic interventions.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents regarding their child's progress through various channels.
  • Develop and execute effective educational strategies to support the unique needs of each student.
  • Perform evaluations of assigned children and address behavioral challenges using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Keep accurate records for each child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Facilitate both small and large group activities, adhering to state regulations regarding documentation and reporting.
  • Prepare lesson plans and substitute teaching materials in advance.
  • Provide regular progress reports to parents and team members.
  • Ensure that all classroom staff are informed of each child's specific goals and needs.
  • Review and update IEP goals as necessary.
  • Adapt educational materials to enhance communication and learning outcomes.
  • Integrate insights and strategies from team members and other professionals.

STANDARD 2: Classroom Management

  • Supervise and support educational aides in their roles throughout the school day.
  • Ensure the health and safety of the classroom environment.
  • Foster effective communication with parents of assigned students.
  • Conduct regular meetings with classroom staff to discuss student progress and strategies.
  • Comply with relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  • Maintain awareness of each student's allergies and medications, ensuring all staff are informed.
  • Evaluate the performance of educational aides in the classroom.

STANDARD 3: Professional Conduct

  • Exhibit professionalism and appropriate behavior in all educational settings.
  • Adhere to program-specific policies and procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Special Educator I: Bachelor's Degree Required
Special Educator II: Master's Degree Required

Knowledge of: Early Childhood Education, Students with Disabilities (B-2 years), Childhood Education, Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6, 5-9, 7-12), and Students with Disabilities (All Grades).

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: New York State Certification in Special Education is required. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in developing individualized education plans is preferred. Prior experience in special education is advantageous. Physical requirements may include lifting and transferring students.
