Job Overview

Position Summary

As a vital member of our logistics team, you will oversee the transportation and delivery of essential materials and equipment necessary for our operations. This role encompasses the handling of various items, including machinery components, steel products, and specialized equipment using different truck and trailer configurations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and manage a range of trucks and trailers.
  • Attach and detach trailers by adjusting jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Conduct and record vehicle and equipment inspections at designated intervals to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is operational.
  • Report any vehicle issues, accidents, traffic violations, or damages.
  • Perform minor maintenance on trucks and trailers; coordinate further maintenance as necessary.
  • Gather delivery instructions from relevant sources, confirm details, and plan routes.
  • Verify all load-related documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain logbooks as required by DOT regulations.
  • Collect receipts and signatures for delivered items.
  • Safely load and secure all shipments, or assist with these tasks.
  • Safely unload all shipments, or assist with these tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, dispatch, and management regarding schedules.
  • Utilize a smartphone to document work hours and other relevant information.
  • Primarily operate within the state, with occasional overnight travel as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving history.
  • At least 3 years of relevant hauling experience.
  • Must be eligible for company insurance approval.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent active listening abilities, ensuring full comprehension of discussions.
  • Dependable with a high standard of integrity.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Additional Information

  • This position is classified as non-exempt.
  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager.
  • No direct reports associated with this position.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

  • Must maintain alertness and perform essential duties safely.
  • Job involves standing, walking, sitting, and using hands for various tasks; may require climbing and working in confined spaces.
  • Regularly lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Commitment to a safe and healthy work environment; must pass a drug screening and background check.
