Primary Responsibilities

In order to further our mission and ensure that young people in Chicago receive the necessary services to overcome homelessness, CHIL is looking for a passionate and skilled individual to enhance our public funding initiatives as a Public Funding Specialist. This pivotal role involves grant research, proposal writing, and managing the application and reporting processes for all CHIL programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Research and Identification:
  • Conduct thorough research to identify government grant opportunities at federal, state, and local levels that align with CHIL's mission.
  • Stay updated on grant announcements and shifts in funding priorities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of CHIL's funding requirements and relevant issues surrounding youth homelessness.
Proposal Development:
  • Create persuasive grant proposals that effectively convey CHIL's mission, impact, and funding needs to government entities.
  • Ensure timely submission of all proposals in accordance with specific funding requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Partner with the Grants Manager to develop and refine CHIL's case statements and proposal templates.
  • Work closely with program staff to gather essential data and success stories for grant applications.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to prepare accurate budget narratives and financial documentation for submissions.
  • Maintain positive relationships with government agencies and stakeholders to stay informed about funding trends.
  • Keep organized records of submissions and communications with funding organizations.
Grant Reporting:
  • Prepare and submit progress reports to government funders, showcasing CHIL's impact and responsible fund utilization.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure compliance and timely report submissions.
  • Work with the Quality Improvements and Outcomes team on grant deliverables related to program metrics.
  • Manage a reporting calendar to ensure timely collection of required metrics.
  • Stay informed about regulatory requirements related to grant applications and reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
Strategy and Planning:
  • Contribute to the development of CHIL's fundraising and sustainability strategies.
  • Engage in strategic planning sessions to align grant-seeking efforts with organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., English, nonprofit management, public administration, communications).
  • Two to four years of experience in government grant writing with a proven track record of securing funding.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and grant management software.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
