The Virginia Racing Commission oversees all aspects of horse racing involving pari-mutuel wagering within the Commonwealth, possessing the authority to establish regulations and standards to ensure the integrity and quality of horse racing, free from any corrupt or unethical practices.

About the Role

The Pari-Mutuel Operations and Compliance Coordinator will manage the pari-mutuel wagering data and oversee the daily functions of the licensing division, which includes:

  • Supervising the data entry of pari-mutuel wagers collected at various facilities, including historical horse racing and simulcast.
  • Inputting wagering data through advanced deposit wagering systems and on-site operations.
  • Reviewing weekly and monthly tax submissions from licensees.
  • Assessing eligibility and issuing licenses to racing participants, employees of licensees, and vendors.
  • Conducting background investigations via Livescan fingerprinting as necessary.
  • Collecting and documenting fines and penalties both internally and in coordination with the Association of Racing Commissioners International.
  • Monitoring the status of licenses and compliance with fingerprinting requirements for license holders.
  • Distributing monthly invoices for licensing fees.
  • Ensuring the smooth operation of the licensing office on a daily basis.

This position may require weekend work, travel to various locations beyond the primary duty station, including overnight stays, and may involve responsibilities outside of the official job description.

Note: This position is not eligible for telecommuting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus on all aspects of the role.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret Virginia Racing Commission regulations.

Licensure / Certification: Candidates must qualify for a license with the Virginia Racing Commission and possess a valid driver's license.

Additional Considerations

Experience or knowledge in bookkeeping or finance is beneficial.
