POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is part of a Union under the Gallatin Rest Home Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses Bargaining Unit.
  • Located at the Gallatin Rest Home, this role operates under the general oversight of the Director of Nursing, executing a range of supportive nursing tasks for residents in a residential or clinical environment. This role involves providing shift supervision to Certified Nurse Aides.
  • The role includes overseeing Certified Nurse Aides, conducting performance evaluations, addressing personnel issues, and offering guidance and training to less experienced staff, as well as coordinating special projects as needed.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a variety of supportive nursing services to meet the daily and specific needs of residents, adhering to nursing practice regulations.
  • Respond to residents' requests, fulfilling authorized needs and reporting any unusual or special requests to the appropriate personnel.
  • Consult with and clarify policies for staff, residents, and their families.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the physician.
  • Monitor and report on residents' health conditions.
  • Assist residents with basic care and personal hygiene maintenance.
  • Record vital signs and report any abnormal findings to the supervising nurse.
  • Provide various medical procedures, including administering first aid and changing dressings.
  • Support residents with feeding when necessary, including tracking their food and fluid intake.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Under the guidance of a registered nurse, administer injections.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess residents' needs and implement care plans.
  • Maintain a safe and functional environment for residents.
  • Participate in daily reporting and training sessions.
  • Assist in training new nursing staff as needed.
  • Step in to perform duties of subordinate staff during emergencies.
Additional Responsibilities

Undertake various other tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which may include coordinating special events, conducting research, attending meetings, and participating in required training sessions. In the event of a local emergency, employees may be called upon to provide essential services during and after the crisis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will possess knowledge of practical nursing principles, the needs of elderly and disabled individuals, and medical terminology. The ability to respond effectively in emergencies, communicate clearly, maintain accurate records, and establish cooperative relationships is essential.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Typically, the required knowledge and skills are obtained through completion of an accredited practical nursing program and licensure to practice in the State of Montana. Experience in a geriatric care setting is preferred but not mandatory.
