Job Overview:

As a Senior Technician in Infrastructure Operations, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our essential infrastructure systems, ensuring optimal performance in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. This position entails the installation, management, and upkeep of low voltage, fiber optic, and data center structured cabling, alongside the equipment that supports our critical operations. You will lead a team of in-house technicians and external vendors, overseeing intricate installations while upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation & Management: Direct and oversee the installation of low voltage, fiber optic, outside plant, and data center structured cabling within our critical environments. Manage the configuration of MDF/IDF/SIDF components, including cabinets, racks, UPS, PDUs, networking devices, and server/storage systems.
  • Cable Oversight: Supervise the installation of conduit and cable tray systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. Manage patch cables connecting networking, computing, and storage systems across various critical environments.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide expert advice, technical direction, and mentorship to in-house technicians and vendors, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and timely communication with Infrastructure leadership, offering updates on project status, potential challenges, achievements, and resource allocation.
  • Hardware Setup: Install and supervise the configuration of essential hardware, including switches, servers, and other rack-mounted equipment. Ensure the effective installation of wireless access points (WAP) and antennas.
  • Issue Resolution: Utilize advanced problem analysis and creative thinking to address technical challenges, employing industry-standard tools and techniques.

Service Expectations:

  • Service Approach: Engage in active observation, listening, and proactive interaction to identify and anticipate the needs of guests and team members. Use effective questioning techniques to deliver service that surpasses expectations.

Work Complexity:

  • Nature of Work: Non-routine tasks that require the application of general policies to frequently changing situations. A comprehensive understanding of technical issues is essential.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Team Oversight: Daily management and supervision of in-house technicians and vendors, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and to the highest standards.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess the following:

  • Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge and practical expertise in telecommunications and structured cabling, including cable management and fiber distribution standards.
  • Technical Skills: Proven experience in installing low voltage cabling and terminating on modplug and modjack connectors, as well as fiber optic cabling, including quick connect, anaerobic termination, and fusion splicing.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience managing teams of 10 or more, along with vendors, in a high-pressure environment.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail. Capability to analyze and resolve complex problems efficiently.
  • Communication Skills: Professional business communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Basic proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint and Visio, is required.

Education:

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience in Infrastructure and Data Center Operations. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Certifications:

  • Preferred: BICSI certification is a plus. Commscope certification is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Required: 5+ years of experience working in Data Centers, MDF/IDF/SIDF, or other critical environments, with hands-on expertise in installing low voltage, fiber optic, and data center structured cabling, as well as MDF/IDF/SIDF components.

EHS Requirements:

  • Safety Training: Participation in Facility Training Programs, including forklift operation, confined space, fall protection, CPR, LOTO, and general tech team safety procedures.
  • PPE Compliance: Adherence to all PPE requirements, including wearing a hard hat, safety vest, and safety glasses.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with control.
  • Ability to work in varied lighting conditions and small or confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in wet, humid, outdoor, and extreme temperature conditions.
  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noise and potential hazards.
