Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Bookkeeper to join our team at The Salvation Army Eastern Territory. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring the smooth operation of our childcare center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage general journal, general ledger, and trial balance
  • Train and assist the Assistant in performing bookkeeping functions
  • Under the supervision of the center director, maintain complete records of all financial transactions
  • Balance books for report preparation, showing income, expenses, and other items related to bookkeeping
  • Check computation of bills, deposits, fees collected, and receipts issued
  • Prepare food claim reports, collect fees, issue receipts, and reconcile receipt totals
  • Prepare bank deposit slips, deposit receipts weekly, and post and summarize fee cards
  • Report weekly to the director on fees in arrears, prepare children's attendance reports, and enter attendance in the DOE Vendor Portal
  • Perform daily petty cash duties, including receiving bills and change, entering expenditures, balancing, and entering receipts
  • Keep daily records of staff attendance, including vacation and sick leave
  • Act as receptionist, answer phone, and perform typing duties for the center
  • Do filing and related clerical work, maintain permanent equipment inventory, and assist parents with Child Intake Packages and certification paperwork
Requirements
  • Graduation from a commercial high school or business school, including one year of high school
  • Bookkeeping courses or six credits of college accounting
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • One year of experience in bookkeeping
