Position Overview:
The Safety and Security Officer is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of hotel guests and staff. This role involves patrolling the hotel premises to identify and report any fire, security, or safety hazards, as well as enforcing Highgate Hotels' policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize proper radio communication protocols at all times.
  • Maintain visual contact with the Front Desk and the hotel entrance while stationed in the lobby area.
  • Keep and review a daily activity log.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding guest and employee incidents.
  • Conduct briefings with Guest Services staff at the start and end of each shift.
  • Verify identification of visitors and employees as required.
  • Grant access to secured areas for authorized personnel only.
  • Stay informed about legal limitations relevant to the position.
  • Assist guests in accessing their rooms in accordance with hotel standards.
  • Provide assistance during medical emergencies.
  • Respond to various emergency situations, including medical, security, and guest complaints.
  • Investigate reports of assaults.
  • Collaborate with external agencies as needed to maintain effective communication.
  • Address altercations and conduct investigations.
  • Understand hotel and guestroom locking mechanisms.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras, if applicable.
  • Administer First Aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Challenge suspicious individuals.
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Complete incident and accident reports accurately.
  • Monitor employee access to and from the building.
  • Conduct investigations related to property losses, guest and employee accidents, and hotel-related crimes.
  • Document all deliveries.
  • Patrol the area to ensure it is secure and free from unauthorized individuals.
  • Provide escorts for individuals carrying money or upon request.
  • Issue and inventory communication devices and keys as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience in hospitality or a related field is preferred.
  • Flexibility in working hours is required.
  • Ability to exert physical force as needed, including lifting and moving objects.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate stairways and respond quickly.
  • Physical capability to deter individuals posing a threat.
  • Maintain a warm and approachable demeanor at all times.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff and guests.
  • Strong listening skills to understand and address concerns from guests and employees.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with Highgate Hotel Standards.
  • Uphold high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
