Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Human Resources Specialist, focusing on employee benefits, is responsible for overseeing and executing the daily operations of the HR department. This includes managing employee benefits, facilitating wellness initiatives, providing customer support, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Distributes comprehensive benefits information, covering medical, dental, disability, life insurance, and retirement options to newly hired staff.
  • Administers leave of absence programs, including FMLA and other state-specific leave laws, collaborating with employees and management to ensure compliance and proper documentation.
  • Coordinates annual benefits enrollment and manages COBRA administration in partnership with the organization’s benefits broker.
  • Assists in crafting HR policies and procedures, addressing inquiries from staff and the public regarding HR-related matters.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders, providing clarity on policies, benefits, and leave procedures.
  • Prepares and organizes materials for departmental meetings, training sessions, and events.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations, as well as best practices in human resources.
  • Maintains regular attendance and performs additional duties as required.

Compensation Structure:

The Jackson County Library District follows a structured salary schedule with incremental increases. The initial salary will be determined based on relevant experience and educational background, in accordance with state pay equity regulations. The starting hourly wage for this role ranges from $24.93 to $26.48.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least two years of experience in a clerical role with responsibilities in human resources or benefits administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Completion of two years of college coursework in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
  2. Experience within the public sector.

Additional Requirements:

  • A criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel for work-related meetings, workshops, or conferences.
