About the Role

As an Associate Director of Enterprise Risk Management at Verizon, you will play a critical role in overseeing the governance and administration of our Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. You will be responsible for leading the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, providing strategic guidance, and ensuring the effective implementation of risk management policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the ERM team in administering the SOX 404 program, including review of process and control documentation, management training, and establishment of management test plans.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the ERM team, providing clear direction and expectations to meet compliance objectives.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and development feedback to team members to help strengthen the team and support team members' professional growth.
  • Lead discussions with executive and senior management on key issues related to risk management and compliance.
  • Assess the quality of management's Business Process SOX control testing and provide feedback to strengthen management's testing capabilities.
  • Develop and deliver training to stakeholders on Business Process SOX control requirements to enforce a strong and compliant control environment.
  • Understand both business process and IT-related risks/controls to identify control efficiency opportunities, identify control gaps, and perform system scoping activities.
  • Facilitate communication between our external auditors and control owners to ensure there is a clear understanding of audit requests and to identify solutions when issues arise.
  • Prepare and present materials on status updates and SOX methodology.
  • Lead pre-implementation reviews of new financial systems and associated tools to enforce compliance with SOX control requirements.
  • Build relationships with business leaders, external auditors, and other Verizon compliance teams.
About You

We're looking for a highly effective communicator with strong leadership skills and a proven track record of building trust and relationships with team members, internal control stakeholders, external auditors, and other Verizon compliance teams. You should have a strong understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, best practices, and testing procedures. Experience in designing and implementing controls governance frameworks and compliance programs is a plus.
