Position Summary:

The Assistant Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing on-site teams, managing jobsite logistics, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations under the guidance of the Superintendent. This position combines supervisory duties with hands-on responsibilities, requiring the execution of various skilled construction tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise activities on-site
  • Advocate for and enforce safety protocols at all times
  • Enhance and maintain quality standards across all work
  • Collaborate effectively with subcontractors, foremen, tradespeople, and general contractors to eliminate barriers and boost productivity
  • Uphold and promote the company’s reputation with clients
  • Oversee, inspect, and manage all deliveries, ensuring alignment with shipping documentation
  • Coordinate labor and equipment for the loading, unloading, and distribution of materials on-site
  • Anticipate labor requirements and communicate needs to the Superintendent and foremen
  • Directly engage in a variety of skilled construction tasks
  • Manage and coordinate cleanup efforts on-site
  • Monitor daily operations and compile reports on progress, compliance, and challenges
  • Enforce safety and legal standards to maintain a secure job site
  • Communicate with subcontractors and field personnel to ensure adherence to schedules and specifications
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of shared project tools
  • Track and manage inventory of tools and materials, with assistance from foremen
  • Ensure cleanliness of the work area and material storage
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Supervisory Role: Yes

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management, site operations, or a related field, or a combination of vocational training and experience
  • Proven experience in managing construction projects, subcontractors, safety, and field operations for high-value projects
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively
  • Capability to present information clearly to clients and colleagues
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, follow instructions, pay attention to detail, and solve problems
  • Must pass a post-offer pre-employment drug screening and may be subject to additional background checks
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures is essential
  • Must have the ability to travel to various job sites as assigned

Work Environment:

  • Work may be conducted in various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
  • Exposure to moderate to high noise levels may occur
  • Potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles, including dust
  • May require working in confined spaces or at heights

Physical Requirements:

  • This role frequently utilizes construction equipment, including heavy machinery and hand tools
  • Job duties may involve climbing, bending, pulling, reaching overhead, standing or walking for extended periods, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hands for handling tools and controls is required
  • Visual acuity for close and distance vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision is necessary

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel may be required, typically not overnight

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in heavy mechanical construction or general contracting
  • Prior military experience is a plus
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • OSHA 30 certification is preferred
