Position Overview: Multi-Disciplinary ESL/ELL Educator

As a Multi-Disciplinary ESL/ELL Educator, you will be instrumental in delivering tailored instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs) within a newly established sheltered English language program. Your main focus will be on creating and executing effective lesson plans that address the unique academic needs of ELL students in a small class setting (initially around 2-4 students in grades 9-11, with an anticipated increase to approximately 10 students in subsequent years). These lesson plans will encompass various subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Theology.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:
  • Design and modify curriculum materials, resources, and assessments to align with the linguistic proficiency and academic objectives of ELL students.
  • Ensure instructional content is consistent with the curriculum provided to non-ELL students.
Instructional Delivery:
  • Provide engaging and interactive ESL instruction utilizing diverse teaching methods to enhance language acquisition and comprehension.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varied learning needs, language backgrounds, and proficiency levels of ELL students.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Conduct continuous assessments to track student progress in English language proficiency and academic skills.
  • Utilize assessment data to inform instructional strategies and offer targeted support for students needing additional assistance.
  • Facilitate the transition of ELL students from the academy to mainstream academic programs.
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusion:
  • Promote a culturally responsive and inclusive learning atmosphere that honors the diverse backgrounds of ELL students.
  • Encourage cross-cultural understanding by integrating multicultural content into lesson plans.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from the mainstream academic program and the international academy to support the academic and linguistic integration of ELL students.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices.
Support for the Launch of the New Academic Program:
  • Assist in the strategic planning and development of innovative initiatives for the new academic program.
  • Foster a collaborative environment with the international agency, students, faculty, and staff.
Parent and Community Engagement:
  • Establish effective communication with parents/guardians of ELL students and representatives from the international agency to provide updates on student progress and address concerns.
  • Connect with community resources to offer additional support services and enrichment opportunities for ELL students and their families.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree and/or TESOL certification preferred).
  • Prior experience in ESL instruction and/or secondary education preferred.
  • Familiarity with second language teaching methodologies and assessment.
  • Knowledge in subjects such as English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Theology, History/Civics, Biology/Chemistry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin is a plus but not required.
Compensation:

Compensation ranges from $4,700.00 to $5,000.00 per course instructed per academic year, based on experience and the specific courses taught.
