Job Summary

The Chinatown Community Development Center is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Desk Clerk to join our team. As a key member of our front desk staff, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of our building, ensuring a positive experience for all tenants and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Screening and Access Control: Screen all visitors who enter and leave the building, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the premises.
  • Surveillance and Monitoring: Monitor all exits via surveillance footage and conduct regular foot patrols of the building during your shift.
  • Log Keeping and Communication: Update the daily log in detail to pass on important information to colleagues and management.
  • Phone and Message Management: Screen incoming phone calls and route phone messages to the appropriate staff member.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any House Rules violations to the Property Manager and take initiative in calling 911 or non-emergency police services as needed.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to all building emergencies in the absence of the On-Site Manager, Property Manager, or Property Supervisor.
  • Tenant Support: Assist tenants with requests, such as opening maintenance work orders.
  • Front Desk Maintenance: Maintain the orderliness of the front entrance, lobby, and adjoining rooms/areas.
  • Communication and Outreach: Post and distribute tenant notices and perform other tasks as assigned by the Property Manager or Assistant Property Manager.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Interpersonal Skills: Possess a pleasant and professional manner, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Take initiative to problem-solve and respond to stressful situations in a calm and composed manner.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrate sensitivity to issues facing diverse populations, including families, homeless individuals, disabled individuals, and the elderly.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel programs is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Security and Reception Experience: Prior experience in security and/or reception work is highly desirable.
  • Customer Service Skills: Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Chinese, Russian, and/or Spanish languages is a plus.
