About the Role

GLG is seeking a highly skilled Taxonomy Specialist to join our Data Operations team. As a Taxonomy Specialist, you will play a critical role in identifying, building, and maintaining taxonomies and associated metadata that enable our powerful search capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and Maintain Taxonomies: Develop and maintain a series of taxonomies, including crosswalks and associated metadata, to support our search capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with stakeholders in the business and engineering teams to understand their needs and design and implement changes to the taxonomies to satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Analyze Data and Develop Solutions: Analyze relevant data to understand usage patterns and develop data solutions to address issues that arise in the ongoing usage of the taxonomies.
  • Develop Processes and Train Offshore Resources: Develop processes around various data cleaning and creation exercises and create training to monitor progress on data cleaning tasks completed by offshore resources.
Requirements
  • Experience with Taxonomies: At least two (2) years of experience defining, building, or maintaining taxonomies or ontologies.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program or Bachelor's degree in Linguistics or Computational Linguistics.
  • Skills: Relevant work experience with data analysis, collection development, discovery services, electronic resources management, or technical services in an academic or public library. Ability to work effectively within teams and independently. Flexibility and willingness to expand or shift the range of responsibilities to meet evolving needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming Skills: Experience with Python or SQL.
  • Taxonomy Tools: Experience with taxonomy tools like Synaptica, Smartlogic Semaphore, or Pool Party.
  • Natural Language Processing: Implementing natural language processing (NLP) and/or large language model (LLM) data projects.
