This position is a key member of the administration team, responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations in the healthcare practice. The Patient Service Specialist must maintain a professional, positive demeanor when interacting with patients, either in-person, over the phone, or via email.
Key Responsibilities- Answer calls and route telephone calls appropriately, taking messages and following through to ensure the appropriate team member receives the information.
- Provide a high level of customer service to all new and existing patients of the practice.
- Create patient cases and document telephone calls and messages into the electronic medical record.
- Schedule patient appointments and arrange for necessary testing.
- Register patients in the electronic medical record, verifying demographic and insurance information.
- Collect required insurance co-pays from patients, including any prior balances.
- Follow scheduling notes and direct patient visits in other healthcare practices as advised.
- Perform pre-visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments, including running insurance eligibility.
- Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as needed.
- Perform outreach to select patient groups as directed for patient care and quality measurement/guidelines.
- Schedule specialty appointments/testing as required.
- Perform work in electronic medical record buckets as directed and per practice need.
- Inform the manager of administrative supply needs or assist with ordering.
- Follow up with providers on missing slips and create claims in the electronic medical record.
- Work assigned revenue cycle buckets as directed.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to healthcare policies and maintain patient confidentiality.
