Position Overview
The Operational Excellence Manager is tasked with leading and managing the Continuous Improvement and Process Enhancement teams to foster operational superiority. This role involves initiating and executing Lean and Six Sigma projects aimed at enhancing performance across various critical metrics through the application of DMAIC and Lean principles. You will spearhead significant process enhancement and cost reduction initiatives to achieve financial objectives within established timelines. Additionally, you will assess current operations to uncover new project prospects and financial advantages, identify key factors to achieve business goals, and monitor, track, and report on the advancement of improvement efforts. The ability to pinpoint inefficiencies, devise specific proposals, and create execution plans for enhancement projects is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, establish, and implement the Operational Excellence program, incorporating methodologies such as lean transformation and Six Sigma (DMAIC).
- Drive initiatives aimed at enhancing performance across various key metrics, including Supply, Cost, Quality, and Safety.
- Work towards process excellence based on value stream enhancement plans and the improvement of essential plant business processes.
- Analyze critical Operational Excellence-related operational metrics associated with the plant Scorecard and conduct periodic reviews to assess results and formulate action plans to address operational gaps.
- Collaborate with site leaders to formulate Continuous Improvement plans and partner with them for ongoing prioritization and progress tracking.
- Continuously enhance the capabilities of the Operational Excellence organization through ongoing development activities and the identification of key talent.
- Adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and plant policies/guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong problem-solving capabilities utilizing DMAIC, PDCA, or 8D methodologies.
- Data-driven mindset with a keen attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated urgency and sound judgment in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of addressing a diverse audience from staff to executive levels.
- Ability to formulate and implement strategic plans through influence, education, and training.
- Capacity to work independently and make effective decisions often with limited information and oversight.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and inclusion within the organization.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
- Open to innovative approaches and a proven track record of local implementation of concepts.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Access, with demonstrated experience in leadership, project management, and problem-solving.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in Operations, Engineering, or project leadership is required; 7 years is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience leading direct reports or managing projects is preferred.
- A background in Continuous Improvement is preferred.
- Certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is required.
- Ideal candidates will have experience in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device sectors.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based work environment.
- Occasional work in a clean room setting.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs unassisted.
- Travel requirements are typically less than 25% of the time.
