The Senior Director of Reimbursement & Cost Reporting plays a pivotal role in overseeing the professional staff and acts as a key resource on a wide array of federal and state reimbursement policies, including but not limited to IPPS, OPPS, IPF, and IRF. This position is crucial for the preparation of cost reports, ensuring compliance, conducting reimbursement research, and performing financial analyses for the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.
Key Responsibilities
A typical day for the Senior Director of Reimbursement & Cost Reporting includes:
- Enhancing the financial and operational performance of the Network by developing and implementing effective policies, processes, and tools related to third-party reimbursement.
- Managing personnel: Overseeing the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and training of all Reimbursement professionals within the department.
- Financial Oversight: Centralizing the development of third-party accounts and ensuring accurate reconciliation of patient-level credit balances.
- Leading the preparation, submission, and audit of third-party cost reports, including negotiating settlements with third parties.
- Directing the preparation of GME IRS filings and DSH filings for the organization.
- Monitoring and analyzing proposed federal and statutory legislative changes and their potential impacts.
- Developing strategies for third-party governmental appeals.
- Ensuring optimal reimbursement for safety net providers by reviewing subsidies.
- Chairing the Wage Index Data Integrity Workgroup to guarantee accurate reporting on Federal Cost Reports.
- Negotiating with government agencies to resolve payment disputes and collaborating with legal counsel as necessary.
- Participating in state and national meetings regarding policy proposals that affect healthcare institutions.
- Preparing and delivering presentations on reimbursement topics during departmental and interdepartmental meetings.
- Building and maintaining a skilled, customer-focused team to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
- Creating an engaging work environment that aligns with departmental and organizational goals, providing coaching and performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Applying financial analytical techniques and a comprehensive healthcare business perspective to all engagements.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with industry trends and regulations.
- Maintaining high standards of integrity in a paperless business intelligence environment.
- Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in reimbursement.
- Experience in a large health network or academic medical center.
- Advanced proficiency in relevant technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite and financial systems.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and team collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated professional growth and increasing responsibility.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master of Business Administration (MBA).
