Job Summary

This position functions as a Registered Nurse (RN) providing direct care to patients on the Mental Health Unit using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient's responses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide High-Quality Patient Care: Utilize neurobiological and cognitive-behavioral frameworks and techniques to deliver evidence-based nursing care to patients.
  • Assess and Evaluate Patient Outcomes: Complete assessments, provide interventions, and evaluate patient outcomes according to the appropriate pathway guidelines.
  • Provide Education and Support: Educate patients on illness, coping alternatives, and relapse prevention.
  • Lead and Collaborate with Team Members: Delegate, oversee, and provide direction to Mental Health Counselor team members.
  • Initiate and Implement Activities: Take initiative to provide appropriate activities for patients when needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate information accurately and effectively to the treatment team, patients, families, and other appropriate agencies.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Clinical Skills: Demonstrate interest and pursue advancement of clinical skills by asking questions, seeking feedback, sharing articles, attending continuing education opportunities, and enrolling in classes.
  • Maintain a Safe Environment: Monitor and manage the milieu to maintain a safe environment.
  • Identify and Intervene in Crises: Identify and intervene appropriately in any potential crisis.
  • Document Patient Information: Document patient information according to policy.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement: Participate in performance improvement projects.
Requirements
  • Credential: RN - Registered Nurse
  • Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • Qualification Source: MI
  • Credential: BLS - Basic Life Support
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • Qualification Source: AHA
  • Credential: CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention
  • Equivalent Experience: Mandatory nonviolent crisis intervention and physical management training (CPI) within 90 days of hire or transfer date and annually thereafter.
